Who ISFPs Are Most Compatible With
ISFP’s personality compatibility is based on the cognitive alignment of the types, their temperament, and their interaction style. ISFPs are as follows:
- Cognitive functions: Fi Se Ni Te
- Temperament (Kiersey): Artisans
- Interaction style (Linda Berens): Behind the Scenes
There is no perfect 100% compatible match. ISFPs are scored for their compatibility with other personality types based on four factors- communication, passion, friendship, and partnership. A match that is high in one is often lower in another. It is up to the individual to decide which factors are most important for them in a relationship.
Communication
ISFPs have the greatest compatibility in communication with types that share the same cognitive functions. The cognitive functions are like languages our minds speak and when someone has the same functions, we do not have to translate our minds to them. ISFPs speak the languages of reality and values. As a result, ISFPs communication compatibility can be broken down as follows:
- High Compatibility: ISFP, ESFP, INTJ, ENTJ
- Medium High Compatibility: INFP, ENFP, ESTP, ISTP
- Medium Low Compatibility: ISTJ, ESTJ, ENFJ, INFJ
- Low Compatibility: ENTP, INTP, ESFJ, ISFJ
Partnership
For partnership, ISFPs are most compatible with EJ types- meaning ENTJ, ENFJ, ESTJ, and ESFJ. Together, they are the most efficient and get the most done. The two balance each other out and their working styles and the EJ helps the ISFP put their ideas to action. They do not clash with each other, preventing conflict and complacency.
Friendship
For friendship, ISFPs tend to be compatible with fellow SP types. This means they have the greatest compatibility for companionship with ISFPs, ESFPs, ESTPs, and ISTPs. Simply, these types see the world through a similar lens and so can easily get along and enjoy activities together.
Passion
ISFPs have the greatest amount of passion compatibility in a relationship with those that have opposite cognitive functions to them. For them, ENTPs, INTPs, ISFJs, and ESFJs are polar opposites to them and create a spark. However, this passion can also turn to the most electric fights. As a result, these types together are the most likely to resolve their arguments with “physical activities.”
Who ISFPs are least compatible with
ISFPs have the greatest amount of conflict, and thus least compatibility, with the personality types that have opposite cognitive functions. When two people with opposite perspectives come together, they are bound to conflict eventually. While all couples have arguments no matter what their types, below are some common points of conflict for ISFPs with other personality types.
Incompatibility with SJ types- ESTJ, ISTJ, ESFJ, ISFJ
- ISFPs seek to engage with what is actionable in the present in order to move towards singular Ni vision. Thus, they disrupt the status quo, distressing the SJ and making them feel like things are in chaos. SJs follow a clear set of steps based on what has been done in the past. This makes the ISFP feel stifled and trapped. The ISFP doesn’t understand why the SJ doesn’t want to move forward or “go for it”. The SJ views the ISFP’s approach to the world as haphazard and dangerous.
Incompatibility with NP types- ENTP, INTP, ENFP, INFP
- NPs prefer to focus on many possibilities that the ISFP views as not practically actionable in the present. So, the ISFP shoots down the NP’s ideas as they are not able to be done. This makes the NP feel devalued. To the ISFP, the NP seems to not know how to do what needs to be done. They view them as lacking follow through. To the NP, the ISFP seems narrow minded and unimaginative.
Incompatibility with TP types- ENTP, INTP, ESTP, ISTP
The ISFP’s values do not make sense to the TP because they are based in an intuitive feeling and liking of a thing rather than underlying reasons. The TP’s logic annoys the ISFP. They don’t care about the reasons behind an action, just that they did it. The ISFP makes the TP feel like they’re a bad or cold person for putting logic above feeling. The TP makes the ISFP feel like their feelings are invalid in the face of logic.
Incompatibility with FJ types- ENFJ, INFJ, ESFJ, ISFJ
- To the ISFP, FJs can appear “shallow” or “fake” and seem too concerned with fitting in instead of being themselves. Conversely, to the FJ, the ISFP can appear “selfish” and seem too wrapped up in themselves rather than getting along with others. The FJ focuses on the group rather than the individual. The ISFP interprets this as not valuing their own individuality enough. The ISFP focuses on their own likes and identity over the group. The FJ interprets this as disrupting the peace and being stubborn.
