Who INTJs Are Most Compatible With
INTJ’s personality compatibility is based on the cognitive alignment of the type. This shows us how INTJs primarily perceive the world and make judgements based on those perceptions. INTJ’s are as follows:
- Cognitive functions: Ni Te Fi Se
There is no perfect 100% compatible match. INTJs are scored for their compatibility with other personality types based on four factors- communication, passion, friendship, and partnership. A match that is high in one is often lower in another. It is up to the individual to decide which factors are most important for them in a relationship.
When it comes to dating and relationships, INTJs are notoriously hard to read and elusive. If you’re dating or trying to date an INTJ, download our guide with our top 20 pieces of practical advice for dating an INTJ. INTJ Dating Guide
Communication
INTJs have the greatest compatibility in communication with types that share the same cognitive functions. The cognitive functions are like languages our minds speak and when someone has the same functions, we do not have to translate our minds to them. INTJs speak the languages of patterns and facts. As a result, INTJs communication compatibility can be broken down as follows:
- High Compatibility: INTJ, ENTJ, ESFP, ISFP
- Medium High Compatibility: ISTJ, ESTJ, ENFJ, INFJ
- Medium Low Compatibility: INFP, ENFP, ESTP, ISTP
- Low Compatibility: ISFJ, ESFJ, ENTP, INTP
Partnership
For partnership, INTJs are most compatible with EP types- meaning ENTP, ENFP, ESTP, and ESFP. Together, they are the most efficient and get the most done. The two balance each other out and their working styles do not clash with each other, preventing conflict and complacency.
Friendship
For friendship, INTJs tend to be compatible with fellow NJ types. This means they have the greatest compatibility for companionship with INTJs, ENTJs, ENFJs, and INFJs. These types see the world through a similar lens and so can easily get along and enjoy activities together.
Passion
INTJs have the greatest amount of passion compatibility in a relationship with those that have opposite cognitive functions to them. For them, ENTPs, INTPs, ESFJs, and ISFJs are polar opposites to them and create a spark. However, this passion can also turn to the most electric fights. These types together are the most likely to resolve their arguments with “physical activities.”
Who are INTJs least compatible with?
INTJs have the greatest amount of conflict, and thus least compatibility, with the personality types that have opposite cognitive functions. When two people with opposite perspectives come together, they are bound to conflict eventually. While all couples have arguments no matter what their types, below are some common points of conflict for INTJs with other personality types.
Incompatibility with FJ types- ESFJ, ISFJ, ENFJ, INFJ
- The INTJ’s focus on efficiency can bulldoze over the harmony of the group and other people’s feelings which distresses the FJ. The FJ interprets this behavior as being an “a*-hole”. Conversely, the FJ’s focus on group harmony can forsake efficiency. The INTJ interprets this behavior as being a pushover or fake to make other people happy. The INTJ’s directness can hurt the feelings of others. The FJ then feels responsible to clean up the INTJ’s “mess”. Finally, the FJ’s need to fit in and empathize first can put their own interests and truth at jeopardy. So, the INTJ feels responsible to clean up the FJ’s “mess”.
Incompatibility with SJ types- ESTJ, ISTJ, ESFJ, ISFJ
- INTJs are driven to move towards a singular vision for the future. However, SJs prefer to maintain their system for what has been done in the past. So, the INTJ sees the SJ as stuck in their ways. Conversely, the SJ sees the INTJ as moving too quickly into the unknown. Both appear immovable to the other.
Incompatibility with NP types- ENFP, INFP, ENTP, INTP
- The INTJ seeks to narrow down to 1 meaning/path while NPs seeks to expand to many meanings/paths. INTJs are determined to “know” while NPs are determined to never truly “know”- closing vs. opening possibilities. Then, conflict arises over time wasted brainstorming by the NP but not deciding as the INTJ wishes to do.
Incompatibility with TP types- ENTP, INTP, ESTP, ISTP
-
The INTJ is focused on efficiency and gets frustrated with the TP’s need for understanding which can slow things down. TPs can lack respect for the INTJ’s lack of depth of understanding a subject. When a INTJ teaches or tries to explain a concept to a TP, the TP is prone to ask many questions to develop their own internal framework of the subject. The INTJ sometimes interpret these questions as being dumb or lacking research.
