Who ISFJs Are Most Compatible With
ISFJ’s personality compatibility is based on the cognitive alignment of the types, their temperament, and their interaction style. ISFJs are as follows:
- Cognitive functions: Si Fe Ti Ne
- Temperament (Kiersey): Guardians
- Interaction style (Linda Berens): Behind the Scenes
There is no perfect 100% compatible match. ISFJs are scored for their compatibility with other personality types based on four factors- communication, passion, friendship, and partnership. A match that is high in one is often lower in another. It is up to the individual to decide which factors are most important for them in a relationship.
Communication
ISFJs have the greatest compatibility in communication with types that share the same cognitive functions. The cognitive functions are like languages our minds speak and when someone has the same functions, we do not have to translate our minds to them. ISFJs speak the languages of past instances and relational harmony. As a result, ISFJs communication compatibility can be broken down as follows:
- High Compatibility: ISFJ, ESFJ, ENTP, INTP
- Medium High Compatibility: INFJ, ENFJ, ESTJ, ISTJ
- Medium Low Compatibility: ISTP, ESTP, ENFP, INFP
- Low Compatibility: INTJ, ENTJ, ESFP, ISFP
Partnership
For partnership, ISFJs are most compatible with EP types- meaning ENTP, ENFP, ESTP, and ESFP. Together, they are the most efficient and get the most done. The two balance each other out and their working styles do not clash with each other, preventing conflict and complacency.
Friendship
For friendship, ISFJs tend to be compatible with fellow SJ types. This means they have the greatest compatibility for companionship with ISTJs, ESTJs, ESFJs, and ISFJs. These types see the world through a similar lens and so can easily get along and enjoy activities together.
Passion
ISFJs have the greatest amount of passion compatibility in a relationship with those that have opposite cognitive functions to them. For them, ESFPs, ISFPs, ENTJs, and INTJs are polar opposites to them and create a spark. However, this passion can also turn to the most electric fights. These types together are the most likely to resolve their arguments with “physical activities.”
Who are ISFJs least compatible with?
ISFJs have the greatest amount of conflict, and thus least compatibility, with the personality types that have opposite cognitive functions. When two people with opposite perspectives come together, they are bound to conflict eventually. While all couples have arguments no matter what their types, below are some common points of conflict for ISFJs with other personality types.
Incompatibility with TJ types- ESTJ, ISTJ, ENTJ, INTJ
- The TJ’s focus on efficiency can bulldoze over the harmony of the group and other people’s feelings which distresses the ISFJ. The ISFJ interprets this behavior as being an “a*-hole”. Conversely, the ISFJ’s focus on group harmony can forsake efficiency. The TJ interprets this behavior as being a pushover or fake to make other people happy. The TJ’s directness can hurt the feelings of others. The ISFJ then feels responsible to clean up the TJ’s “mess”. Finally, the ISFJ’s need to fit in and empathize first can put their own interests and truth at jeopardy. So, the TJ feels responsible to clean up the ISFJ’s “mess”.
Incompatibility with NJ types- ENTJ, INTJ, ENFJ, INFJ
- NJs are driven to move towards a singular vision for the future. However, ISFJs prefer to maintain their system for what has been done in the past. So, the NJ sees the ISFJ as stuck in their ways. Conversely, the ISFJ sees the NJ as ignoring important details before moving forward.
Incompatibility with FP types- ENFP, INFP, ESFP, ISFP
- To the FP, the ISFJ can appear fake and seem too concerned with fitting or people pleasing instead of being themselves. To the ISFJ, the FP can appear “selfish” and seem too wrapped up in themselves rather than getting along with others. The ISFJ focuses on the group rather than the individual. Conversely, the FP focuses on their own likes and identity over the group harmony.
Incompatibility with SP types- ESTP, ISTP, ESFP, ISFP
- SPs seek to engage with what is actionable in the present in order to move towards a singular Ni vision. Thus, they disrupt the status quo, distressing the ISFJ and making them feel like things are in chaos. The ISFJ maintains the status quo and focuses on the fine details- making the SP feel stifled and trapped. The SP doesn’t understand why the ISFJ doesn’t want to move forward or “go for it”. The ISFJ views the SP’s approach to the world as haphazard and dangerous.
