Who ENFPs Are Most Compatible With
Dating an ENFP is full of exploration and fun. They follow their passion and tend to jump in headfirst when it feels right. However, dating an ENFP comes with many challenges like constantly changing interests which can be hard to keep up with. If you’re dating or trying to date an ENFP, download our guide with our top 20 pieces of practical advice.
ENFP’s personality compatibility is based on the cognitive alignment of the types, their temperament, and their interaction style. ENFPs are as follows:
- Cognitive functions: Ne Fi Te Si
- Temperament (Kiersey): Idealists
- Interaction style (Linda Berens): Get Things Going
There is no perfect 100% compatible match. ENFPs are scored for their compatibility with other personality types based on four factors- communication, passion, friendship, and partnership. A match that is high in one is often lower in another. It is up to the individual to decide which factors are most important for them in a relationship.
Communication
ENFPs have the greatest compatibility in communication with types that share the same cognitive functions. The cognitive functions are like languages our minds speak and when someone has the same functions, we do not have to translate our minds to them. ENFPs speak the languages of possibilities and values. As a result, ENFPs communication compatibility can be broken down as follows:
- High Compatibility: INFP, ENFP, ISTJ, ESTJ
- Medium High Compatibility: ISFP, ESFP, ENTP, INTP
- Medium Low Compatibility: INTJ, ENTJ, ESFJ, ISFJ
- Low Compatibility: ESTP, ISTP, ENFJ, INFJ
Partnership
For partnership, ENFPs are most compatible with IJ types- meaning INTJ, INFJ, ISTJ, and ISFJ. Together, they are the most efficient and get the most done. The two balance each other out and their working styles and the IJ helps the ENFP put their ideas to action. They do not clash with each other, preventing conflict and complacency.
Friendship
For friendship, ENFPs tend to be compatible with fellow NP types. This means they have the greatest compatibility for companionship with INFPs, ENFPs, ENTPs, and INTPs. Simply, these types see the world through a similar lens and so can easily get along and enjoy activities together.
Passion
ENFPs have the greatest amount of passion compatibility in a relationship with those that have opposite cognitive functions to them. For them, ESTPs, ISTPs, INFJs, and ENFJs are polar opposites to them and create a spark. However, this passion can also turn to the most electric fights. As a result, these types together are the most likely to resolve their arguments with “physical activities.”
Who ENFPs Are Least Compatible With
ENFPs have the greatest amount of conflict, and thus least compatibility, with the personality types that have opposite cognitive functions. When two people with opposite perspectives come together, they are bound to conflict eventually. While all couples have arguments no matter what their types, below are some common points of conflict for ENFPs with other personality types.
Incompatibility with NJ types- ENTJ, INTJ, ENFJ, INFJ
The NJ seeks to narrow down to 1 meaning/path while the ENFP seeks to expand to many meanings/paths. So, the NJ closes opportunities while the ENFP opens possibilities. Then, conflict arises over time wasted brainstorming by the ENFP but not deciding as the NJ wishes to do.
Incompatibility with SP types- ESTP, ISTP, ESFP, ISFP
- The ENFP prefers to focus on many possibilities that the SP views as not practically actionable in the present. So, the SP shoots down the ENFP’s ideas as they are not able to be done. This makes the ENFP feel devalued. To SP, the ENFP seems to not know how to do what needs to be done. They view them as lacking follow through. To the ENFP, the SP seems narrow minded and unimaginative.
Incompatibility with TP types- ENTP, INTP, ESTP, ISTP
The ENFP’s values do not make sense to the TP because they are based in an intuitive feeling and liking of a thing rather than underlying reasons. The TP’s logic annoys the ENFP. They don’t care about the reasons behind an action, just that they did it. The ENFP makes the TP feel like they’re a bad or cold person for putting logic above feeling. The TP makes the ENFP feel like their feelings are invalid in the face of logic.
Incompatibility with FJ types- ENFJ, INFJ, ESFJ, ISFJ
- To the ENFP, FJs can appear “shallow” or “fake” and seem too concerned with fitting in instead of being themselves. Conversely, to the FJ, the ENFP can appear “selfish” and seem too wrapped up in themselves rather than getting along with others. The FJ focuses on the group rather than the individual. The ENFP interprets this as not valuing their own individuality enough. The ENFP focuses on their own likes and identity over the group. The FJ interprets this as disrupting the peace and being stubborn.
